is a Kentucky artist, an associate member of the Pastel Society of America and member of the Southeastern Pastel Society. Ashley is also a musician, beginning her early adult life as songwriter and singer in the band The Reneaus. However, as time for music became limited, she began to search for a more readily available creative outlet. After many years of dormancy, this is how her love for painting was rekindled. Now, with Kentucky’s landscapes as her muse, Ashley weaves deep colors and bold markings throughout her visual art, creating vibrant soft pastel landscapes and abstract mixed media pieces.

Soft Pastels and Care

Soft Pastels are a fine art medium comprised primarily of pure pigments, with minimal binding agents, which contribute to their vibrant and intense colors. This high pigment concentration allows artists to create rich and expressive artwork. Soft pastels are often confused with chalk, however, no chalk, or very minimal chalk, is used in the creation of a pastel.

Because soft pastels are a dry medium, dust migration is normal and adds to the character of each piece. However, careful handling is suggested, and it is not recommended to touch the face of the painting. I provide a sheet of glassine paper with each purchase that can be placed over the artwork to help hold the pastel in place when handling. I use high quality pastels and archival pastel papers, so you will be able to enjoy your artwork for years to come. If you have any questions, I am happy to help.
